Wagga Race 21/10/07

After the misfortune of the previous day, Brendan Stewart and I headed to Wagga for a 90 minute enduro race. The course was over part of the Wagga 3 hour course, which I enjoyed, unfortunately they took out the brutal fire road hill climb.

Off the start I went hard and took the lead again. I strung it out into the first section of single track. We ended up with a group of 4 guys. The other 4 were quite happy to ride at my speed, which was good for me. After a few laps of setting my own tempo, I decided that 4 was too many. So I surged up the fire roads and on some of the single track. We dropped Danny King's Nemesis, "footy shorts boy". Then going along one section of track, Adrian Hamilton's wheel blew out, leaving just me and Simon Haworth from Wagga.

I was somewhat faster than Simon on the loose dirt, but probably slower in the tight sections. I kept trying to get away from Simon, even on some of the single track I would kick and try and get away. I couldn't drop him. When I did drop him, he would find his way back on my wheel by the main fire road. It wasn't until the last lap on a tough little uphill section of single track that he dropped my wheel, so I went harder, then I looked back and he wasn't in sight, so I went harder again. I rode into the finish without Simon in sight. My first individual Mountain Bike Race Win! Brendan Stewart also rode very well for 6th place!

It was so hot that during the race I drank my full camel pack, so 3 litres of water!
