This year's Nail Can sees a big change to the event with the MTB ride now being held on Saturday afternoon at 2pm. This came about due to the earlier start time of the run on Sunday morning (now at 9am). The course for the MTB ride will change also, but for the better with more single track being added to the course and a new finish location. The start will be at Lavington Panthers as usual but the finish will now be at the end of Range Rd on all the new awesome single track purpose built for mountain biking. This should make the event more fun than ever before and will give people the chance to do both the ride and run with a night's rest in between. Of course the Ironman/woman challenge will still be on for people that enter both events.
Entry form and Course Map
Here is the new race calendar for this years Hammer Time XC race series.
A night race will be held in May and winter sees a handicap series while the last 3 races of the
year comprise the club XC championships.
The first inaugural Multisport was a huge success. Thanks to all the volunteers and club members that helped out over the weekend. All the MTB events were well attended and the feedback we had was that all the courses were loved by the riders travelling from out of town. Next year's event should prove to be bigger and better!
Results for the 2007 club champs are below. Damian and Jayne have been leading the club races all year so they both have well deserved their wins for the year. Dave Schilg is clearly the fastest rider in the juniors and would beat most adults as well. Ann Schilg won without too much trouble with only a small field of junior female riders. It would be good to see some more females racing next year and with consistent efforts you could easily get a top result. The results are as follows:
Race number plates will be issued according to your ranking in the results. There are quite a few occurrences where two or more people are on the same number of points so to obtain a clear result and rank accordingly we have used the following guidelines to determine placings:
Hope this all makes sense!!!
Social ride starts at the Range Rd site at 5pm and will finish at Hovell Tree Park at 6:30pm
The BBQ (free of course) will commence there at 6:30 and we will present championship trophies and numbers about then.
Everyone is welcome to attend both or either the ride and BBQ.
We will however have no BBQ after our championship final on 24th November though we will still give away some spot prizes and provide cold soft drink. The course for that day will be ridden in the same direction (backwards) as last race but it will be 5 or 6 laps of a much shorter section of track. It should be a 40 – 45min race.

Hi all MTBers. The club is proposing to give our monthly Nail Can races at Range road a unique name! As you know it can be a bit confusing calling everything 'Nail Can' so we want to come up with a new name for these monthly races. This is where we want your input. Please think of a name that is not too long, rolls of the tongue easily and is something that people would actually use. The committee have started the ball rolling by coming up with a few suggestions but we want your ideas as well. Please post your thoughts on the forum with your name or email bradspin@bigpond.net.au or Brendan.Stewart@bigpond.com and let us know what you want it called.
Well done to all the 139 riders that participated in the event and the 28 that did the Ironman contest.

The most recent dirt crit series was capped off with last nights final. Racing was close and so were series points and I believe it was another good combination of competative AND social club MTBing - exactly what it should be. Again well done to Hot Lap and Series place getters and to everyone else too for turning up and making it what it is. Fast, or not so fast, old and young everyone is welcome and we have allsorts. We would like to thank the Schilg family for helping every week whether riding or not, everyone else that chipped in and MUM - the BBQ lady. We would especially like to thank The Full Cycle for once again giving us heaps of great gear to toss out as prizes. See you out there, BREN.

"Dirt crits are back!!! Start training and get fit for summer!!!"
Another 6 week series of Dirt Crits are starting up on Nov 8th at the Equestrian Centre Roberts Rd Thurgoona. A practice night will be on Nov 1st to get familiar with the new course and the race series will run every Wed night from Nov 8th to Dec 13th. Racing starts at 6:30pm with registration from 6pm. The first week (Nov 8) will see a scratch race and the results of this will be used to issue race numbers for the rest of the series. Example: finish first on week 1 and get the No. 1 plate for the series. Riders can also take their number plate home each week after paying a $10 deposit. A free BBQ and presentation will be held at the conclusion of the last week on Dec 13th. Spot prizes will be up for grabs each week with a major prize on the last night. The cost for the series is Adults $40 & Juniors $30 plus MTBA licence. Newcomers to mountain biking are more than welcome to come along and have a ride for just one night or the 6 weeks. The track is easy to ride and is a 4km circuit of single track. A flyer and entry form will be available soon. We hope to see some good competition amongst both the men, women and juniors!
In conjunction with Albury City Councils "Big Ride Day" our club will be running a Kids' MTB session at Hovell Tree park as it coincides with the Mountain Bike Association of Australia's "Take a kid MTBing Day". There will be some fun skills instruction with a group MTB ride afterward. If anyone is available to help out on this day please contact a committee member ASAP - we need a few helpers. There will also be an offroad ride from Hovell Tree park for anyone not interested or too old (you're only old if you think you are) for the kids stuff, nothing hard just a cruise really. It will be a big morning including road bike rides and concluding with a BBQ and prize draw at about 12:30. There will be lots of advertising leading up to it.
Note that this clashes with the Beechworth Chaingang's Beechworth to Eldorado race. We expect a number of our members will attend the Beechworth race instead.
Don't forget the 23rd September is the club's AGM and Social Function. The AGM will run from 7 - 8pm followed by snacks, drinks at bar prices and the usual social activities. The cost is $10.00pp. The club has thrown in some money to reduce the price, making it affordable for all. Office bearers will be nominated and selected for the 2006/7 year. The event will be upstairs at "The Lounge" in Dean Street opposite the Cinema complex. If any members wish to join the MTB committee and help out please feel free to come along to the AGM and nominate yourself.
Group social rides are starting back up on a regular basis now. They are at a fairly easy pace so riders of all ages and abilities are welcome. They are held on the 1st Saturday afternoon of each month at 2:00pm and on the 3rd Sunday morning of each month at 9:00am. The meeting point is at the top of Gap road Albury (up past the TAFE). Check the events page for updated info as there may be an out of town race on at the same time meaning there may not be anyone up on Nail Can.
This Sunday (Aug 13) we are having a social ride with the Beechworth Chain Gang before their MTB evening. Meet at the Beechworth MTB Park at 2:00pm for a fun filled afternoon exploring the MTB Park and also ride the awesome Woolshed track! Then kick back and have dinner watching MTB videos on the big screen at Tanswells Commercial Hotel Beechworth. All are welcome to come along and you can bring your family along for dinner. If you need a lift post a message on the forum, car pool with a few others, or else see you at 2pm at the Beechworth MTB Park. For more info call Brad on 0402 245 581.
